Optimized Itinerary

DAY 1: Cusco – Paucartambo – Tres Cruces Sunrise Viewpoint (July 14th)

Your Manu adventure begins with an extremely early departure (1:00 a.m.) from Cusco by private transport. We travel through the high Andes to the traditional and folkloric town of Paucartambo. Our journey continues towards the Tres Cruces viewpoint, a famous location on the border of the Manu National Park. We will position ourselves here to wait for the unique sunrise event.

DAY 2: Tres Cruces Sunrise – Cloud Forest – Pona Lodge

We rise before dawn (4:00 a.m.) at the Tres Cruces viewpoint to witness the spectacular sunrise—often featuring optical illusions as the sun seems to shine the world. After a well-deserved breakfast, we continue our descent. We officially enter the Manu National Park area and proceed into the vibrant Cloud Forest. At San Pedro, we visit the lek (mating ground) to observe the magnificent Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruviana), the national bird of Peru, displaying its vibrant plumage. We also search for various monkey species, birds, and admire the unique flora. We arrive in Pilcopata in the evening, where we will settle into our local lodge for the night.

DAY 3: Pona lodge – Hot Springs – Papaya Eco Lodge – Caiman Spotting

Following breakfast, we continue by private bus to Atalaya Port. Along the way, we stop to learn about a Coca plantation and take photos from a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the jungle and river systems. From Atalaya, we board our motorized boat and head for the natural Hot Springs to enjoy a relaxing break in nature. We then continue by boat to the Manu Eco Lodge, arriving mid-afternoon. In the late afternoon, we take a jungle walk near the campsite. After dinner, we embark on a thrilling night walk to look for nocturnal creatures like spiders and snakes, followed by a visit to a small oxbow lake for exciting Caiman Spotting.

DAY 4: Ceiba Tree Trek – River Swim & BBQ Night

Today features a deep jungle walk to find the enormous Giant Ceiba Tree (strictly preserved in a nature reserve). Along the way, we focus on identifying primary rainforest animals such as tapir tracks, collared peccaries, monkeys, coati, and diverse birds like eagles, parrots, and toucans. Our guide will highlight important medicinal plants and giant trees of the jungle. Upon arrival at the designated area, you can swim in the river and try your hand at fishing. Enjoy a beautiful sunset from the jungle followed by a night of relaxation, a bonfire, and a special BBQ dinner at the lodge.

DAY 5: Collpa de Loros (Optional) – Return to Cusco

We get up early (Optional) to visit the Parrots Clay Lick to witness the spectacle of parrots consuming mineral-rich clay. After a final breakfast, we take our boat to Atalaya Port. Our private bus will be waiting to transport us back to Cusco via the stunning Cloud Forest and Paucartambo, arriving in the late afternoon.
